The goal is to improve the patient experience, reduce postoperative pain and complications, safely and appropriately reduce inpatient hospital days, and reduce early re-admissions following surgery.

- Risk assessment and preparation.
- Postoperative care (including pain management and rehabilitation).
- Communication with other care providers (nursing, anaesthetist, allied health, surgeon).
- Coordination of personnel and systems.
- Shared decision-making.
